Lecture Anthony Dann: the role of design in debates on new technology

What happens when rather than making technology easy to use and consumable, designers use the language of design to inspire, provoke, and pose questions?

Anthony Dann is professor at the highly influential post-graduate art and design program of London’s Royal College of Arts and co-owner of the Dunne & Raby studio, which works with Sony, Panasonic, France Telecom and the British Museum of Science. The Design Interactions faculty that he heads — «at the Royal College of Arts,» I’d add; it’s not immediately clear at which uni this faculty is. — studies the role of design in discussions on developments of new technology and presents research in the form of prototypes, performances, video recordings and photographs.

Anthony Dann studied industrial design and defended his PhD-thesis in the field of computer design at the Royal College of Art. He worked as a senior researcher at the EU-sponsored CRD Research Studio, and his essays and projects have been published and presented around the world. They are on permanent display at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
