Thomas Heatherwick was the youngest person to be appointed as the Royal Designer for Industry. Heatherwick Studio, which he founded in 1994, today consists of more than 60 architects, designers and manufacturers and deals with projects in the fields of architecture, furniture design and strategic planning. Recently the studio has been focusing on large-scale construction and design projects, including a Benedictine monastery in Britain, a power plant in North England, a 180 meters high hotel in Hong-Kong, residential development in Kuala Lumpur and a new city bus for London.
During his lecture, Thomas will present Heatherwick Stutios approach to design and architecture. Using the studios latest projects (Britains pavillion at Shanghai Expo 2010, new London city bus design and an unconventional solution the studio found for the Rolling Bridge project) as an illustration, Thomas will speak about the way the studio creates unique examples of design and architecture.
