Lecture Thomas Heatherwick on His Projects

Thomas Heatherwick is a British designer and architect, honorary member of the Royal Instituteof British Architects, senior researcher at the Royal College of Art and Victoria & Albert Museum, doctor of four British universities (Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Dundee, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Brighton). Thomas Heatherwick was the youngest person to be appointed as the Royal Designer for Industry. In 2010 at the London Design Festival he was awarded the London Design Medal for his considerable contribution to the industry.

Heatherwick Studio, which he founded in 1994, today consists of more than 60 architects, designers and manufacturers and deals with projects in the fields of architecture, furniture design and strategic planning. Recently the studio has been focusing on large-scale construction and design projects, including a Benedictine monastery in Britain, a power plant in North England, a 180 meters high hotel in Hong-Kong, residential development in Kuala Lumpur and a new city bus for London. 

During his lecture, Thomas will present Heatherwick Stutio’s approach to design and architecture. Using the studio’s latest projects (Britain’s pavillion at Shanghai Expo 2010, new London city bus design and an unconventional solution the studio found for the Rolling Bridge project) as an illustration, Thomas will speak about the way the studio creates unique examples of design and architecture.
