Since 1989, as principal of his own firm—Leeser Architecture—German-born architect Thomas Leeser has achieved worldwide recognition for his innovative design, which challenges traditional notions of program and space.  Much of the firm’s work stems from Leeser’s interest in the integration of emerging technologies and new forms of media into architectural design and practice.

Leeser’s design for the Eyebeam Atelier Museum in 2001 was driven by a complete integration of technology into the form and function of the building.  A digital carpet, robotic archive, and hydraulic theater are few of the many features of the architecture that encourage and facilitate visitor interaction the digital realm.  In 2003, Leeser’s entry for the Design School Zollverein competition took the unique characteristics of the UNESCO site as inspiration to design new concepts of program, space and technology.  Similarly, Leeser’s winning design for the World Mammoth and Permafrost Museum in Siberia responded to technical and environmental patterns of the site, creating a building adept to the dramatic seasons of the Siberian permafrost.

Current international projects of the firm include a 10,000 sm Iconic Greenhouse in Abu Dhabi, UAE, as well as a 150,000 mixed use complex including retail, entertainment and offices in Bangkok Thailand.  The Iconic Greenhouse is being designed as an educational and science center for Abu Dhabi, providing the display and study of foreign plant species.  The landscape of the greenhouse is digitally programmed to give users more information about the plants they are observing.  Leeser Architecture’s design for the mixed use development will provide the city of Bangkok with a new shopping district that synthesizes dynamic architecture with natural environment.

Leeser Architecture is based in Brooklyn, New York, USA.  The firm is comprised of fifteen designers designers, two staff assistants, and architectural interns.  Among the team are two licensed architects and three project managers.  The current staff has considerable expertise in working on cultural projects, notably museum renovations and expansions.
