Американский писатель и бывший архитектурный критик The New York Times Николай Урусофф проведет на «Стрелке» трехдневную летнюю школу про основные конфликты, сформировавшие направление современной архитектуры на протяжении последних 100 лет: от столкновений классицистов с модернистами в Чикаго, до политических проектов, которые переформатировали Берлин после его воссоединения.
В рамках школы будут затронуты такие темы, как «Улицы пролетариата в «Красной Вене», "Кампания Ле Корбюзье против города», «Тревоги холодной войны», «Взрыв поп-культуры» и другие.
Цель летней школы – продемонстрировать, как современная архитектура воплощает и формирует социальные и политические тенденции.
Николай Урусофф – писатель, в прошлом – архитектурный критик The New York Times, финалист Пулитцеровской премии в 2004, 2006 и 2011 годах. Работы Урусова печатались такими изданиями как Harper’s Magazine, Art Forum, New York Observer и Vanity Fair.
В настоящее время Урусофф работает над книгой по истории архитектуры.

Nicolai Ourussoff, american writer and a former architecture critic of The New York Times, will held the workshop the idea of which is to trace some of the key conflicts that have shaped architecture over the past 100-plus years, from the clashes between Classicists and Modernists that shook Chicago at the turn of the last century to the politically fraught projects that reshaped Berlin after reunification. At the workshop would be raised such topics as Housing The Proletariat In Red Vienna, Le Corbusier’s Campaign Against The City, Cold War Anxieties, Pop Explosion and others.
The point of the workshop is get away from the conventional idea of architecture as a series of period styles – to demonstrate how it can embody, or sometimes even challenge – bigger social and political trends.
Nicolai Ouroussoff is a writer and a former architecture critic of The New York Times, were he wrote widely on architecture and urbanism in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2004, 2006 and 2011. Ouroussoff’s work has also appeared in publications such as Harper’s Magazine, Art Forum, the New York Observer and Vanity Fair.
Nicolai Ouroussoff is currently writing a book on architecture, culture and politics from the birth of Modernism to today.
